The Dwarven Nation, Tessin
You understand our language, right?
"Picking up a dragon and making it a pet… Karina-oneesan, even for you, this is a bit much."
"It's a bit late to be saying that, Dea-sama. Master is just… well, all I can say is she's amazing."
So I introduced the dragon to Dea-kun and Aishia, and these were their somewhat resigned reactions.
Good thing they didn't say "Take it back where you found it!"
"Yessir! Pleasure to meetcha, senpais!"
"He says nice to meet you."
I interpreted the greeting. I'd already told them both that I'd learned the Draconic skill.
"Oh, yes. Likewise. It's quite… docile, isn't it? The dragons I know are more like… natural disasters. I'm surprised to see one bow its head so politely."
"Master, what's this dragon's name?"
When Aishia asked, I realized I hadn't actually asked for its name.
"Hey, she's asking your name. What is it?"
"My name's (untranslatable), ma'am!"
"Huh? What?"
"(Untranslatable), ma'am!"
All I could hear was noise, like "Gyaogii" or something.
No, to be more precise, just that part sounded like raw dragon vocalization. There's probably no corresponding word, so it can't be translated.
"Looks like it's a word that doesn't exist in our language, so I can't understand it directly. Mind if I just give you a nickname?"
"Yessir! If Anego's the one naming me, I'll accept anything!"
"How about Pochi? It's a common dog name back in my country… well, nobody really names their dogs Pochi these days… maybe that's too retro?"
"Um, at least give me a dragon-like name, please…"
What the heck, if you had preferences you should've said so from the start. And here you were saying you'd accept anything.
"Dea-kun, give him some cool dragon-like name."
"Huh?! I get to name him?!"
"Yeah, he says it's fine."
"Wha?! I wanted Anego to name me—"
"I'm saying it's fine, so you don't have any complaints, right?"
"—None at all, Anego! Please take care of me, Dea-kun-san!"
The Thunder Dragon snapped to attention.
"I've never named a dragon before! What should I… B-Bahamut, maybe?"
"Wait, Dea-kun-san, that's the nickname of my uncle's rival, so hold on!"
"Hmm, if it overlaps with an existing dragon's name it might cause problems in dragon society, so let's try to avoid those."
"Ah, understood… Um, could you shake your head if there's a problem? Nod if it's OK."
"Yessir! I'm counting on you, Dea-kun-san!"
The Thunder Dragon nodded eagerly.
Good to see they're already getting along. That's Dea-kun for you.
"Master, this dragon understands our language, right? Then couldn't we write words on cards beforehand so he can communicate with people other than you?"
"Ooh, let's go with that. You're so clever, Aishia."
"Ehehe…"
And so, while Dea-kun was thinking up a name for the dragon, Aishia and I got to work making word cards.
"Yo, came to take a bath… AAAHHH?! D-D-D-Dragon?!! Hey, Karina! The hell did you pick up?! Take this dangerous thing back where it came from!"
Oh, welcome, Mashiro-san. And thanks for the reaction. That's exactly what I expected, in a way.
