Home Improvement Arc

I'm going to make a bath.

"Alright, let's make a light magic item for your room."

Lighting the space with Spatial Magic alone is tricky to adjust. It's fine for my room, but Dea should be able to turn his own lights on and off.

"And for the bath and toilet too, please."

"Yes. Though you'll have to do the finishing and duplication, Karina-neesan."

"Leave it to me!"

Dea is so dependable. Still, there are personal magic items I can't have him build, so I need to level up my own crafting skills too.

That said, a plain massager is innocent enough, so Dea can help with that.

"By the way, Dea. I want to miniaturize the massager we made."

"Miniaturize? Then we'll have to shrink the array while increasing its output…"

Yes, Dea can definitely help with that!

So, Dea will make the items while I make the bath.

A simple hollow pit wouldn't do, so I lined the edges with stones for that hot-spring feel. Finding stones outside was easy enough. For larger, rounder ones, I just had to search along the riverbanks.

While I was picking up river stones, a boar charged at me.

Looks like boar steaks for dinner. Some vegetables would be nice too.

"Area Cutter — and bleed!"

The boar became meat.

… What should I do with the blood? I used Spatial Magic to pull it into a sphere. Just tossing it feels like littering.

"Dumping the offal in the forest would feed the animals… but I can't give the blood to the Scavenger Slime. Don't want it developing a taste for it and turning on us."

Blade-senpai taught me that when camping, you shouldn't drain much blood from your kills. And if you do, you need to dig a hole and bury it, otherwise monsters will come.

I could just wipe the monsters out, but still.

I'll stash the neatly collected blood in storage. It might come in handy, and at least it won't rot in there.

… Speaking of blood — time to take a skip pill. The limited offer one.

I bought a year's supply; skipping this first period is a given. Gulp.

"Dea-kun, look! The hot-spring-style bath is done!"

"I finished the light array too. It can adjust brightness continuously with a single array!"

"Whoa, you embedded continuous brightness control into a single lighting array? The book said to split that across several arrays… So it can be unified after all. Huh. And dimmer means lower mana drain — nice!"

"Maintenance is easier if you split them, but to save stones you want to combine as much as possible."

My little Dea is steadily making his way down the magic item path…!

Technically it's alchemy I guess? Alchemy sure is broad.

"Next I want a sensor that keeps brightness constant. The continuous control was just the groundwork."

"Could use that to keep loads at a constant height too."

"Right! And apply it to Golems!"

Dea grinned proudly. So cute, like a little engineer girl. I should get him a wrench.

"How's your bath going?"

"Quite tasteful. Come see."

I led Dea to the bath.

There was an open-air bath — or more precisely, an entire wall was one big window, letting you soak while gazing out at nature.

I added a drain that overflows into a nearby forest, plus a washing area.

"Spacious, nice… Where is this?"

"Upstream on a river near Solasidor. They can't get in, so even if monsters appear, it's safe."

From the outside, nothing can touch us or see in. It's like looking through a fixed camera.

I could add switches for various scenic spots around the world. Hunting for good views sounds fun.

"Wanna bathe together? I'll scrub your back. Ah, no soap though."

"Fya!? I-I'll pass! Not that I'd hate it or anything!!"

Dea turned bright red and refused.

He's so fun to tease! I love that about him!
