The Dungeon Town, Karkassa

Differences in labor.

Karina-chan here! I have arrived to deliver honey from Solasidor!

When I wholesaled Solasidor honey to a shop introduced by the Merchants' Guild in Karkassa, one large jar went for 20 silver coins. That's 80 silver coins for four.

Since it includes the jar, the profit is 9 silver coins per jar. A profit of 36 silver coins!

I feel so much like a peddler!

Well, I could earn money by doing deliveries as an adventurer, but making money by moving goods from one place to another like this is nice too.

How should I put it… the nature of the labor is different? The type of work, I mean. Can I really say I'm earning it myself?

See, defeating monsters with Spatial Magic and delivering them is completely dependent on Spatial Magic, right?

Nothing would even get started without Spatial Magic. Rather, it feels like Spatial Magic is using me instead of the other way around.

On the other hand, trading goods like this is my own achievement. I could do it even without Spatial Magic.

Using Spatial Magic to make hard things easier feels like I'm properly utilizing it as a tool.

In other words, it's like… "Acting all high and mighty just because you have a 'gifted' power is a bit…"

Honestly, it's a trivial difference, and it doesn't change the fact that Spatial Magic is, in the end, both amazing and convenient.

"So, what would be good to stock here and sell elsewhere?"

"Hahaha, there's nothing but stuff taken from the dungeon. Crawler meat sells reasonably well elsewhere too."

When I asked around while wholesaling the honey, the answer was basically "Weelll, yeah, I guess so". I mean, Karkassa pretty much only has the dungeon.

On the flip side, pretty much any dungeon material counts as a product… So as a merchant, I'd buy that and sell it elsewhere.

… Hmm, but something feels off!

Here's the thing. Monster materials are, to put it bluntly, stuff I can easily get myself if I use Spatial Magic.

Going out of my way to buy that and sell it elsewhere would be, how do I put it… charity work? Maybe if the seller was an orphan child or something. I'll leave that kind of thing to others.

"Isn't there anything like processed goods?"

"If we're talking processed goods, maybe painkillers? Since it's a medicine made from monster poison, you need a license to deal in it properly, but 2 or 3 bottles for personal use is fine."

Painkillers, huh. If they're not addictive, I might as well keep a bottle.

Apparently, they're made by boiling medicinal herbs in the water used to detoxify Crawler meat. Hoeeh.

"Ah. There are also aphrodisiacs."

"Houh. Aphrodisiacs… are those safe? They won't make you brain-dead from 3000 times sensitivity or anything?"

"If it were that dangerous, it wouldn't sell. What the heck is 3000 times sensitivity?"

If not, then that's fine… Eh, one bottle costs 20 silver coins? Expensive.

Ah, but nobles will pay up to 50 silver coins for it. Heeh. So if I bring it to the Merchants' Guild around Veraldo, I could sell it for 30 silver coins.

… Would it be too expensive as a souvenir for Harumikazuchi Onee-sama? Might she be put off?

Hmm…

… Whatever! I'll think about the details later!

I made money from the honey, so I'll buy two bottles. One will be a souvenir for Onee-sama!

"I'll buy two bottles, so give me a discount. 30 silver coins."

"Idiot, how can I make it that cheap? That's a huge loss. 38 silver coins."

"35 silver coins!"

"If you buy something else too, I can make it 36 silver coins."

Oops, did he see right through my compromise point? I thought that was a nice round number that still left me with profit.

"Understood. Then I'll buy some appropriate processed goods likely to sell elsewhere for 40 silver coins."

"Alright, that works. My recommendation would be dried Crawler meat. Since they appear on the 1st floor of the dungeon, you can get them in large quantities. The smoked ones last for half a year."

"Oh, that's exactly the kind of processed good I was looking for."

So, my merchant budget of 80 silver coins was spent as follows:

  • Aphrodisiac 2 bottles: 36 silver coins
  • Mithril knife: 13 silver coins
  • Painkillers: 2 silver coins (for 2 bottles)
  • Smoked Crawler meat: 5 silver coins worth (20 pieces * 6 sets)
  • Bow strings: 5 silver coins worth (equivalent to 5 strings)
  • Silk Spider cloth: 15 silver coins worth (equivalent to 2 shirts)

Total: 76 silver coins

Remaining balance: 4 silver coins.

Crawlers and Silk Spiders… seems like the dungeon here spawns insect types. Apparently you can mine Mithril too.

"Well, that was a good deal. You should come again, sweets like honey are very welcome. Bees appear in this dungeon too, but honey is rare. Demand far exceeds supply."

"You even rounded down the price and threw in an extra set of dried meat. As expected, merchants introduced by the guild don't disappoint."

"That's just how it is. If I get stingy over small change and lose guild referrals, I'll only hurt myself. As long as you understand that, we can do honest business… Though, being a merchant and all, I will charge you more if you don't negotiate properly."

Since he has goods to sell, it's better to have more peddlers coming through. Looking at long-term profit rather than immediate small change… not bad, shopkeeper.

Just then, another peddler arrived.

A small body, carrying a backpack bigger than herself.

"Hi there. I came to wholesale alcohol… Hmm? Are? It's Karikari! Long time no see."

"S-Sati-tan!"

That small red-haired dark-skinned legal loli, or rather dwarf peddler, was Sati-tan whom I met in Solasidor.
