Bodyguard Gacha

I came up with a great idea for countermeasures against assassins.

Just like how I summoned the fairy Ereka for dungeon management, I could prepare some monsters for surveillance and protection.

Like a ghost. It could hide in the shadows and protect me. I dunno if it'd be able to protect me in times of need, though.

Like a spider. If it's a venomous spider, it could even fight for me.

There's even something called a shadow that could hide in the darkness.

That's right, as a Dungeon Master, I'm in the wonderful position of being able to prepare a variety of monsters as pawns in advance, so I shouldn't miss the opportunity to utilize them.

Which is why I decided to consider the candidates for guards in the Master Room.

"But adventurers might detect them in the village… So Kehma, we need to make them look like tamed monsters."

"Ah, I see. How about trying a shadow wolf?"

"I think a goblin might be better. They're basically spirits, so they don't need food if they have magical power, which means they won't cost anything for food."

… Speaking of which, Gobsuke ate bread, but I guess it didn't really need it.

"So, Rokuko, can you do shadow goblin or something then?"

"I don't think putting [Shadow] in front of everything just makes it better… ah, but the combat capabilities of goblins are well known, so they might not be suitable for protection."

That's surprising. I thought Rokuko would happily choose a goblin.

She even just recommended a goblin before denying its suitability.

"… I dunno then, what about a spirit that gives off the feeling of it definitely being a spirit. I could claim to be a [Spirit Tamer] then yeah?"

"A spirit, huh."

I casually browsed through the DP catalog.

… Ah, theres a dragon. Come to think of it, I've been called a Dragon Tamer, so maybe I could have a dragon as a guard… No, dragons are expensive and too conspicuous, so I'll pass on that.

"How about a fire spirit since [Flame Cavern] is nearby?"

"It might be more cost-effective to ask Ontentoo to summon one for us then… No, considering trustworthiness, I should still summon it myself."

Even if Ontentoo were to summon a monster for me, I couldn't imagine it betraying me. If I were in his position though, I might leak seemingly unimportant information.

"Kehma, you're good at earth magic, so how about a gnome?"

"The four great spirits are Gnome, Undine, Sylph, and Salamander, right…? Ontentoo is a salamander, so… I wonder if Gnome is similar to that…?"

When I looked at the catalog, a gnome appeared as a small person wearing a hat… would that even be reliable as a guard? It was also surprisingly expensive. As expected of one of the four great spirits.

"Wouldn't we need a lower-ranking spirit to make the taming excuse more plausible?"

"That's true. Um… there are Dryads, Nymphs, Genies, Koro-pok-guru, Banshees… Oh, how about a Spriggan?"

"I'm not sure… Somehow, I feel like if we're going to use spirits, it would be better to have them serve us through a method other than DP summoning."

There's also something like a floating ball of light. It looked just like Ereka when she divided.

Upon further thought, fairies might also be classified as spirits…

Hmm, there are too many choices, and I'm getting confused.

"… Rokuko, want to try a gacha pull?"

"Eh, really?"

At this point, I feel like it's better to leave it up to Rokuko's luck. Rokuko always seems to pull something nice, so I'm sure she'll do it again. If it doesn't work out, we can always look at the catalog again and worry about it later.

"Rokuko, you have a track record of pulling monsters that could be guards, like the Phoenix and the Mimic Panda."

"Feni and Pack, right? Dia could also become a shield though, you know?"

Ah, the Diamond Jewel Turtle. That's definitely an option too.

By the way, Dia is a magic-user type… Gems have a high affinity with magic.

"… For now, try it with 100,000 DP. I'm counting on you to get something that seems like it can be my guard."

"OK! Leave it to me, I'm launching the 100,000 DP Gacha!"

And so Rokuko pulled the gacha. A magic circle spread out with a whoosh.

The magic circle shrank, finally becoming around thirty centimeters in size.

Then, a small, blue lizard the size of a palm falls to the floor.

"… A lizard?"

"Could it be a dragon!?"

"Seriously…? Well, anything's possible for Rokuko…"

"A blue-scaled dragon… could it be a Blue Dragon or a Hydro Dragon? Oh, it's hard to tell at this size… Ah, but it doesn't have wings."

The blue lizard turned its face towards us and walked up to my feet with a rustling sound. It then bent its legs, laid its belly flat on the ground, and closed its yellow eyes.

"Uh, nice to meet you?"

When I held out my hand, it quickly licked my fingertips with its blue tongue and climbed onto my hand.

What a friendly lizard.

… Its tongue is blue too, but it's not poisonous, right? It's probably fine…

"Kehma, can you understand what it's saying?"

"No, not any specific words… Well, I can kind of understand what it wants to say, to some extent."

"Hmm… Anyway, its name is Gonta."

When Rokuko named it, Gonta happily walked around on my hand.

"Why Gonta?"

"It's one of the names I thought of to give a dragon someday!"

"… But why Gonta?"

Did she make it by using the "gon" in dragon…? I guess it sounds fine if it's a male? I can't tell the gender of a lizard, though.

"So, the question is whether Gonta can be used as a guard or not… What do you think?"

When I asked that, Gonta blinked its yellow eyes.

"Gonta, can you use magic?"

It stuck out its blue tongue briefly.

"… Yep, no idea. I guess it'll follow instructions as a dungeon monster."

"We'll know if we try making it attack. I'll set up a scarecrow."

And so Rokuko set up a scarecrow. It was the kind used for attack practice, like the ones in the trial rooms.

"Go, Gonta! Attack!"

I pointed at the scarecrow and commanded. Gonta glanced at the scarecrow—in the next moment, the scarecrow was encased in ice.

It happened in an instant. The scarecrow was trapped in ice at the blink of an eye.

…

The hell just happened…?

"You did well… Haha, as expected of my Gonta."

"Hold on, Rokuko, this might be the strongest pet we've had so far, even if we count it as part of your pet quota."

Gonta blinked its eyes.

… Seriously, what is this creature? But well, it seems like it can be used as a guard, so that's good…

Maybe I'll ask Ontentoo and Redra later. They might know something because of their reptilian-ness.
