I've got no clue. Thinking about it's probably a waste of time, there's even the possibility that she was just doing it on a whim.. how chaotic.

Well, Rokuko and I were leaving the castle to check out one of Daido's towns. Of course, we weren't alone and had guards with us.

"I am honored to have the chance to guard you, Hero-sama! I'll do my best!"

"Hero-sama, if I may be so bold, allow me to show you through the town."

We had two escorts: a young male knight with sparkling eyes (obviously handsome), and a young female knight (Rokuko was cuter). It's safe to assume there were more hidden escorts and observers.

I wonder if they're using their looks to manipulate us… No, maybe it's just that good-looking people leave a better impression?

There's a possibility they intended to treat us like slaves, but there's also a chance they decided to use us after seeing that we didn't wear those Hero's Bracelets. In any case, there were a number of things I wanted to do outside the castle. I was going to have a meeting with Toy Tindalos, the director of the Magic Research Institute, late that day, so I should take advantage of the time I had.

"Is there any place you'd like to go?"

It didn't feel like that's the sort of thing you should say to someone who was practically kidnapped and brought to this world for the first time, but I guess it's fine.

"I'd like to go to a place with food stalls. After that, maybe a Beddhist church if you have one."

Food is culture. Ichika said that you could learn about a country by looking at its food.

Besides, compared to the food served at the castle, eating outside was relatively safer. We had a chance at skipping dinner by pretending to buy a lot of food.

"Food, huh! There's a place with various shops that has opened recently, so I think the Hero would like it. Please, follow me."

"Beddhism is having a mass today, so how about we head there after noon?"

We'd decided to have lunch at a food stall and then attend the Beddhism mass.

With a radiant smile, the female knight led the way while the male knight kept guard from behind. Rokuko and I linked arms so we wouldn't get separated, heading to the street with the food stalls.

"If you see a stall that catches your eye, let me know. It's my treat… or rather, I'd like to say that, but I've received some money from the captain of the knights, so it's actually his treat."

"Oh? I should thank him, then. What's the captain's name?"

"Captain Charity. He's actually the head of the famous Cthugha family!"

Which Cthugha family? Her explanation was lacking. Is this female knight not aware that we were just abducted from another world?

"Kehma, Kehma! They have karaage!"

"Oh, really…? Wait, baby castella, yakisoba, and okonomiyaki?"

"They even have crepes."

Looking around, there were plenty of food stalls set up offering a lineup similar to what you would find at a Japanese festival. The delicious smell of sauce and soy sauce wafted through the air, along with the sweet scent of desserts. Is this Japan…? Oh, I wonder if there's takoyaki or grilled squid? It's an inland country, after all.

"Ah, those are new foods. Apparently, there was a food development boom among the noble daughters and sons. You're quite familiar with them, huh? I thought they were foods that originated in this country."

"In the world I came from, we had almost the exact same kind of food. Hmmm, I wonder if there's chocolate banana or taiyaki…"

"Heh, so they're in the the Hero's world too… There used to be something called chocolate bananas a while ago, it was a peeled banana coated with chocolate. However, it seems that sponsor who was smuggling chocolate and bananas from abroad got arrested… It was delicious, though."

I wonder if this stall lineup was the work of [Rencarnates]?

By the way, I also made things like karaage, pudding, and ningyoyaki (golem-yaki) in Golen, so I won't say much about it, but it's quite indiscriminate.

… There wasn't any taiyaki, but there were large pancakes, oyaki, and Imagawa-yaki and rotating grilled shops lined up (the signs were different, but the items were all the same). The filling came in two types: custard cream and bean paste with grains.

… If I had a fish-shaped mold, I could make taiyaki too.

"All of them are delicious. Let's buy one of each."

"I want to taste a little bit of everything. Kehma, let's share."

"I should have skipped breakfast."

With that, I shared various foods with Rokuko as well as with the two escort knights, as there seemed to be too much to eat… Well, they didn't hesitate so it didn't seem like there was any poison in it. I made sure of that before taking a bite.

Rokuko could neutralize poison by using her absolute command authority through the Dungeon Core, but I was quite vulnerable to poison. I could die once because I have the [Super Transformation] ability, but yeah.

But the food at these stalls were surprisingly high in technical skill. Where did they get soy sauce, let alone the other sauces and mayonnaise? They're also using sweet whipped cream with plenty of sugar for crepes… are they okay with food poisoning?

"Ah, the surviving stalls are safe now. There was a mayonnaise food poisoning incident in the beginning, though."

"I think it was the chancellor who found out the cause?"

"Chancellor… Is that a different person from the minister we've been dealing with?"

"Yes, the person who has been negotiating with you is the foreign minister, and the chancellor is their superior."

Oh, it was the foreign minister. Huh.

And the chancellor's name is Imasara Dagon, apparently. A name that Leona would really like.

Anyway, after eating, it was past noon. If we go to the Ofton church now, we can take a short tour, participate in mass, and even have a leisurely conversation.

"Let's head to the cathedral. It's right here. The Beddhism church has a historic cathedral; it's truly impressive."

"… Heh, I'm looking forward to it."

… What's it's supposed to mean to be historic cathedral of a new religion?

 

 

 

I thought that, but if they turned an old building into a cathedral, that wouldn't be too off… I guess.
