Into the Game
'The Thief's Prey' Scenario
Side Story
The girl was in despair. At life. At fate. At one of the common misfortunes and endings in this world.
The girl was a merchant's daughter. Her parents had been careful enough to hire adventurers as guards. It's just that those adventurers were in league with bandits. Her father was killed first by the very adventurer who was supposed to protect them, and her mother was tormented in front of her father's severed head — yet still managed to bite off a piece of a bandit. For that defiance, her mother was stabbed repeatedly in a rage and killed.
The bandits watched this, laughing. As if watching an entertaining show.
The remaining girl was scheduled to be killed rather than sold as a slave because it would leave traces.
One of the bandits said, "I'm bored for today, so we'll do this one tomorrow!" Her tendons were cut and the wounds cauterized with a branding iron pulled carelessly from the campfire.
So she wouldn't die right away, but couldn't escape either.
To this girl on the brink of despair, a spirit extended a whimsical helping hand.
"Will you offer everything to the spirit?"
"…"
"Will you offer everything to the spirit?"
"… I'll offer… everything… so — please…"
She thought it might be a hallucination.
It was only natural that the girl took that hand without hesitation.
Hallucination or not, it didn't matter.
"I'll offer anything, so please… kill them all…!"
"Ooh ooh! Not bad even at default yo! — But this time I'll take my time with character creation yo!"
And so, the girl whose body was remade over an entire night had become a completely different person.
"Whew, even I'm impressed by this completion level. Wonderful work yo! Successfully recreated the copyrighted character yo!!"
Long black twintails and pale skin. Blue eyes. And a blue flame-like halo floating behind her head. Nothing remained of the girl's original appearance. It was as if her tendons had never been cut.
Even the rags barely covering her body looked like some kind of punk fashion.
"My name is Ma… mm, that'd be too direct, so with a little twist — Alto! Alto-chan yo~!"
The descent of the spirit. The girl's body had become the spirit's. In name and reality.
The body's ownership already belonged to the spirit, and the girl had become a halo, blankly watching her remade flesh. So this is what it means to be Spirit-Possessed.
… She suddenly noticed she couldn't remember her previous name, but that was no longer something Alto needed.
"Oh? Tutorial. Bandit extermination… Oho! Come to think of it, Alto-chan was kidnapped by bandits yo!"
Ah ha ha! The spirit laughed while moving her body.
A bandit who heard the laughter kicked open the door.
"Shut up this early in the morning! Have you lost your mind!?"
But such intimidation didn't work on the spirit. Irrelevant. Rather.
"… Game start yo~!!"
Grinning, the spirit produced a massive black object from nowhere. A cylindrical thing — she inserted her hand into it, took aim, and pointed it at the bandit through the doorway.
"Boom!!"
A chunk of rock launched from the black mass blew away the door and the bandit.
"Oh, kill count increased yo. 1 of 11! 10 more to go yo~. Ah, let me check the controls first yo."
Saying that, she started stepping side to side on the spot.
Bandits who heard the commotion came to the room one by one… no, one creature at a time, then another creature.
"Whoa! Hey hey, what is this…!?"
"Wh-what is that? Sh-she's hopping side to side at high speed… H-hey, this is where we locked up the woman, right?"
"Consecutive presses for quick step, and jump is… Oh. Can this be played with a controller too yo? And rolling is…"
The spirit ignored the watching bandits and started rolling forward.
"N-now she's rolling! Toward the wall!"
"Has she lost her mind? Wait, where did she even come from…?"
"Oops. Seems like they're gathering yo? How considerate yo!"
Click. The spirit casually pointed the black mass — the gun (or perhaps it should be called a cannon), an ancient civilization's weapon — at the bandits.
The girl had already realized this was a tremendous weapon… It would be stranger not to notice.
After all, just moving a finger could kill a person.
"Boom!!"
And indeed, with just a flick of the finger, bandits went flying like it was nothing.
"Hyahaa! Weaklings, weaklings yo! 6 more to go yo!"
"I-it's a Spirit-Possessed! No way, the woman became Spirit-Possessed! This is bad, run!"
"Not letting you escape yo! Become fodder for the tutorial yo~!"
"AAAAAAHHH!!!"
Bandits fled in panic.
Some spirited ones tried to attack, but the spirit calmly aimed the gun saying, "A QTE yo", and the bandit went flying.
One tried to hide behind cover to wait it out, but—
"I can see you on the map yo~. Fouuund youuu!"
With a grin like a monster (despite definitely looking like a peerless beauty), she cornered and killed them.
One left the cabin and breathed a sigh of relief, but the spirit glanced his way, aimed through the window, and bang.
"Hmph. Shot another boring thing yo…"
The bandit's head vanished and he collapsed.
The girl, now a halo, was definitely watching this with laughter. What a very, oh so very entertaining show.
After exterminating the bandits, the spirit thoroughly searched the bandit hideout.
There were corpses — including the girl's parents — as well as stolen goods. The spirit stored the stolen goods in the void.
Among them were many items that had belonged to her parents — merchandise and keepsakes — but ownership of those naturally belonged to the spirit now.
Having offered everything, that was only natural. However the spirit who had slaughtered the bandits chose to use them, the girl had no complaints.
No complaints, but she felt a little lonely.
"Ooh, this black belt looks useful yo! Hmm, looks cool. I'll wear it with the coat for a while yo!"
Saying that, the spirit wrapped her father's belt around her waist. She seemed to like it and was in good spirits.
… The loneliness the girl had been feeling eased a little.
