Magic Shopping Spree
I decided to ask at the guild reception about how to learn attack magic without using SP.
Figured I'd ask while reporting the orc settlement annihilation.
"So yeah, I want to learn attack magic… how do I do that?"
"… Um. Most people go to a place called the magic shop. You can buy spellbooks there."
"Magic shop? Where it it!?"
"On the map, it's around here. Look for the witch hat sign."
So apparently you can just buy magic. Good thing I didn't rashly use SP.
"Heh. So there's a shop like that. I'll check it out too!"
"Alright, shopping at the magic shop! I've got money!"
We'd been completing requests at the Adventurers' Guild constantly, so rewards had piled up.
I was also having Tria and the others eat at the guild tavern, but that's mostly flavor and doesn't cost much. Oh, but it does raise affection.
"By the way, to celebrate paying back half my debt, I tried button-mashing to see how much I could eat at the cafeteria. Around 10 servings in, my HP started dropping and I almost died, so be careful."
"Dude. Penpen, that's definitely lowering player affection."
"Nah, it went up? She said she was happy to eat until her stomach almost burst."
"Wasn't she just being polite? If it actually burst, she'd die, you know? Game over."
"Sorry Pen-chan! I'll be careful from now on!"
Anyway, the magic shop.
When Penpen and I went to the magic shop the guild told us about, it was a store filled with scrolls and books.
Without the witch hat sign, I'd have thought it was a medieval bookstore.
"Excuse meee. I'd like to buy some magic."
"Hm? Yes, yes… Whoa. Oh, um, just let me know if there's a spell you want to buy."
Did she just say "whoa"? Wait, I washed up after killing orcs, right?
"I'd like to learn some attack magic."
"Attack magic, there are various kinds… there are. Ah, one moment please. Manual, manual… Here it is. Okay. If your parameters are insufficient, you won't be able to learn it, so please be careful. No refunds, we only do trade-ins. Please understand."
Hmm, maybe a new part-timer? Well, as long as she sells me magic properly, it doesn't matter.
"Tria! There's a Fireball scroll! We can match!"
"Match, huh. That's fine if I can learn it. Oh, how much is this?"
"Three silver coins."
"Sure thing. Ka-ching."
The orc settlement reward covered it easily. Item, use… Learned!
"Oh, the scroll burned up and vanished."
"That means it was consumed. Did you learn it?"
"Yeah, seems like it. At Lv 28, this much should be doable. Nice."
I wanted to test it right away, but the clerk said "Please don't test-fire in here" preemptively.
I wasn't going to!
"We match, we match♪"
"Oh right, is there magic that'd work well against turtles?"
"For turtles, wouldn't electricity work?"
"Electricity, huh. Anything good? Clerk, got any recommendations?"
"Electric… yes, yes, one moment… This, this, and this, also this maybe? There we go."
She rummaged through the shelves and pulled out 3 scrolls and 1 book.
"These are Thunder, Thunderbolt, Enchant Thunder, and Tempest."
They cost 3 silver, 5 silver, 10 silver, and 5 gold respectively. The 5 gold Tempest was the book.
Definitely a powerful one. And definitely beyond Tria's current parameters.
"By the way Tria, what's your budget?"
"My total assets are 8 gold, so I could buy everything… but I'll pass on Tempest for now. I'll take the three scrolls."
"Thanks for your purchase."
Alright, let's try them right away. Thunder… learned! Thunderbolt… failed! Enchant Thunder… learned!
Yeah. One scroll left over. Tempest definitely would've been impossible.
"Looks like my parameters weren't enough for Thunderbolt. Penpen, I'll sell it for 3 silver."
"At cost! Well, whatever. Here you go… Learned!"
After trading for 3 silver, Penpen easily learned Thunderbolt.
"By the way, what's the difference between Thunder and Thunderbolt?"
"Let's ask the clerk! What's the difference?"
"Ah, let me see. Manual, manual… Ah, yes. Bolt-type spells use more MP but have higher attack power. Oh, and they have more range too."
Yeah, she was totally reading from notes, but I won't say anything.
She answered properly, and knowing the difference is what matters.
"Alright, let's do some test-firing with a goblin subjugation request outside town."
"Then I'll tag along this time!"
"Th-thanks for your purchase. Please come again."
Leaving the magic shop, we went back to the guild, took a goblin subjugation request, and moved to the grassland.
And the goblins became sacrifices. Sacrifices for test-firing.
By the way, magic could be set in slots and activated by tapping them.
Hyahaa! Magic attacks are fun! Fireball! Thunder! Enchant Thunder then kick and punch!
Well, goblins are small fry, so they died in one hit. It's test-firing, can't be helped.
After repeating the cycle of depleting my MP annihilating goblins and resting to recover, the sun had set.
My proficiency or whatever definitely went up a lot.
No idea how many request completions that counted as.
"Good work on your requests… Yes, you've ranked up. Yes, you've ranked up. Congratulations, you're both C-rank now."
"Oh, me and Penpen both ranked up to C? Yay!"
"Yeeaah! Nice!"
Well, we did hunt a ton. Man, finally C-rank. Caught up to my coworker. Now I can meet up with my head held high — time to adventure together!
