Into the Game
To the Wiki
Auto-mode could now handle Baby Turtle hunting.
She was even activating skills I hadn't instructed. Probably an inspiration system. I should tell my coworker that can happen.
"Now then, while leaving it to auto-mode, maybe I'll check out the strategy wiki."
Supposedly it's still new and lacking content, but there's no harm in looking. If someone's working through a similar scenario, it'd be useful reference.
I typed "Kaito a Luise Wiki" into the search engine, and a link appeared as expected. Let's check it out.
The page was simple — white background, menu on the left, content on the right. A basic wiki. Usually the left menu would be organized by category, but just as my coworker said the creation was chaotic, the menu had strange entries like "Discovered Items", "Warnings", and "Mysteries".
There was also a note: "'Story' has been removed for now as each player's appears to be unique." I was a bit curious about how others' stories were going, though.
Looking at the "Discovered Items" page, the content was almost all comments. Reports of finding herbs, finding swords, finding horses, being eaten by dragons — discoveries with unclear names and effects.
"Warnings" was mostly death reports. Apparently dying means your character is lost AND you can't play for 12 hours as a penalty.
Losing a character you've raised is a serious penalty. I was glad to learn this early and relieved that playing it safe with exploration wasn't a mistake.
There were also comments complaining about unreasonable deaths right after starting. Even then, they couldn't play for 12 hours without exception… Was I lucky to only face Baby Turtles I could actually beat?
Looking at the "Mysteries" section, there was a screenshot of the "Ancient Ruins Gun" my coworker had shown me at lunch. Definitely his post.
It suggested the existence of ancient ruins and a magical-scientific civilization. Right, I heard about this at lunch already, so no need to read it now.
As for place names or maps… nothing. Even if there were, I wouldn't know where Tria currently is.
The only useful thing from the wiki was learning that playing it safe is probably best. It's really not well-developed yet.
I carefully read through the comments. It's a suspicious game in various ways, but looking at the commenter handles, several players were actively posting.
For example, a player named Takurou who'd lost characters:
"Died in a nonsensical place right after starting! This has to be a bug! And character loss is way too harsh…"
"AND a 12-hour play ban is way too heavy. At least make it 3 hours…!"
"Taking good care of my second girl! Live!"
"12 hours again? The difficulty is lunatic tier."
… He'd already lost multiple characters, apparently.
Next, a player named Nekuura who posted a lot on the items page:
"Found herbs. Seems like they heal when eaten."
"Don't eat this mushroom, it's poisonous. Failed the patch test."
"Also, you can patch test items. Being able to identify poison somewhat without eating is helpful."
"Found rock salt. Might sell for a lot? Where's the town tho?"
"Maybe I should just build a base in this forest… Gonna read some survival manga and try pioneering. So much freedom~"
Patch test — that's the one where you put it on your skin to check for reactions, right? Maybe I should try that with the turtle meat.
This player also hasn't reached a town apparently.
And in the "Mysteries" section was a player who was probably my coworker, handle: Mazeru.
"Check out my girl's SP equipment yo! So cool!"
"Look look~! The description! Ancient civilization yo!!"
"Everyone use guns yo! They're strong yo!"
"Huh? Only good early game? Shut up I'm gonna mod it yo!! I'll get Gunsmith skill, just watch yo!! It doesn't exist? I'll find it yo!! This game lets you do pretty much anything yo!! It definitely exists yo!!"
Forget "probably"… that's definitely my coworker. The screenshot matches perfectly, and he uses that speech pattern in public too.
Also, nothing about SP specifically?
I refreshed the page, and right at that moment, an "SP" entry appeared in the left menu.
Proof that it's brand new and still being made. I didn't expect to witness a wiki entry being added in real time, but clicking it revealed almost no content, as expected.
The table had "How to Obtain SP" and "SP Uses" but the cells were empty.
There was one line: "Looking for SP-related information in comments." … Yeah, I'll comment that you get 3 SP per level up.
I'll also write about using SP to regenerate missing limbs. I'm getting info from this wiki, so it's give and take.
Others will probably share similar info, and it feels better to contribute when you can.
… Oh, others also get 3 SP per level up. Seems universal. They should have a list of SP items soon.
Come to think of it, there should probably be an entry about auto-mode too, but I usually just browse wikis and don't know how to edit. I'll leave a comment saying "Would like an entry about auto-mode."
… I'll hold off on mentioning that exercise strengthens parameters. Still testing that.
"Oh, I should tell Tria-chan to prioritize safety. Losing her on death would be sad, and she's already playing it safe, but let's increase the safety margin even more."
I closed the wiki and returned to the game.
… …
"… Huh?! What is this, there are way too many Baby Turtle corpses!?"
Looking at the game screen, Baby Turtle carcasses were scattered all around Tria.
Wh-what happened?
The log only showed "Defeated Baby Turtle" entries… Looking at the timestamps, the intervals were extremely short, and no items had been picked up. I could sort of piece it together.
She'd been attacked by a swarm of Baby Turtles and proceeded to wipe them out.
U-uh… she got really strong.
