Commentary: The Library-City Dungeon's Sphere of Influence (Reference Map Included)

● The Library-City Dungeon

A tower-type dungeon standing atop a hill a little over 100 m high in the uninhabited wasteland of "Adachi," built by stacking up a great many libraries. It has no formal dungeon name. For the cumulative energy it has acquired, its scale is quite large.

Type: Library (produces books, newspapers, and magazines)

Scale: 554 tier-groups / 4,787 floors / height 19.9 km / total floor area 10 million m² (of which about 3 million m² is library)

Monster count: 21 (8 Named, 13 named-ordinary); retainers: 54 (all named-ordinary)

Unique laws: no fire indoors; the Core Room and other central areas off-limits to unauthorized persons; can maintain a living environment free of altitude sickness even on the high floors?

Note that, by design, places such as Kishi Village are not counted among the "tier-group count." There are currently 13 fiefs. The rest is directly held domain.

【Yōko's Castle】

To the north of the dungeon, inside the ramparts. Its formal name is undecided. It is a summoned keep-style library, where the enchantress-fox Yōko plans to open a fox cafe.

【Kannon-ji】

Near the outside of the northeast gate. It has a Kannon hall and a snake pond, with Minuma spreading out at its feet. The nun and her retinue, along with a liquor-loving dragon, live here.

● West Side / the Quarter of the Rooster

17 ri to the Iruma Magistracy at Kasumigaseki. In Scarlet's charge. The first highway to be improved.

【Kamikochō】

The town at the west gate of the ramparts. The ramparts have a radius of about 1.1 km, and the five towns lie outside them.

【Kamogawa】

A dry valley to the west of the Library-City Dungeon.

【Senba Village】 (fief)

10 ri. The fief of Senba Sama-no-jō Jiro, of the Murayama Party.

【Biwabashi】

About 16 ri. The bridge at the border with Iruma. A checkpoint is set on the far bank of the bridge. Just beyond is Kawagoe Castle, and south of that lies the Senba clan's home base. One ri to the west is the Iruma Magistracy at Kasumigaseki.

● Northwest Side / the Quarter of the Boar

The Ke direction. In the charge of Rāja and Haruna.

【Ōnaruchō】

The town at the northwest gate of the ramparts.

【Mamushi Village】 (fief)

10 ri. The fief of the Mamushi clan, of the Tan Party. The Tan Party is based in the region of Musashi near Ke.

【Iinuma Village】 (fief)

30 ri. The base of the Unakami clan.

● Northeast Side / the Quarter of the Ox

The Nasu-Shiobara direction. In Farigole's charge.

【Domachi】

The town at the northeast gate of the ramparts.

【Kisai Village】 (fief)

10 ri. The fief of the Kisai Party. A clan that, long ago, was based far to the north of the Library-City Dungeon.

【Noda Village】

A heron hill located east of Kisai. It has become an island floating in Minuma, where night herons and egrets live.

【Kuki Village】 (fief)

30 ri. The base of the Kuki clan. A barren land where dunes spread out.

● East Side / the Quarter of the Hare

The Oda Castle direction. In Anne's charge. The third highway to be opened.

【Higashimachi】

The town at the east gate of the ramparts. Outside the gate is Amanuma.

【Shibakawa】

A dry valley that lay 2 km east of the Library-City Dungeon. It is now Minuma. The far bank is Minami-Nakano.

【Ayasegawa】

A dry valley that lay about 6 km east of the Library-City Dungeon. It is now Minuma. The near side is named Someya, and the far bank Sasakubo, Kuroya, and Sueda.

【Motoarakawa】

A dry valley that lay about 10 km east of the Library-City Dungeon. It is now Minuma.

【Furutonegawa】

A dry valley that lay about 15 km east of the Library-City Dungeon. It is now Minuma.

【Edogawa】

A dry valley that lay about 20 km east of the Library-City Dungeon. It is now the easternmost part of Minuma.

【Noyo Village】 (fief)

10 ri. The fief of the Noyo Party. A clan that, long ago, was based a little to the north of the Library-City Dungeon.

On the far bank of the dry valley lies a ruin thought to be the remains of a collapsed dungeon, called the "Ruins of the Rocky Mountain." A doughnut shape a little over 200 m across, walled on the outside and low on the inside, with the rubble of what seem to be collapsed walls scattered about.

【Ōi Village】 (fief)

20 ri. A branch village of Ōi in Iruma. A boar-warrior called the "Great Boar" lives here.

【Murakami Village】 (fief)

30 ri. Home to the Murakami clan.

【Site of the Former Tanigoe Village】

It was a base built by the Tsukuba. Since people lived there, it could not be folded into the dungeon's sphere of influence, and being outside the sphere, it could not be destroyed by the dungeon's functions, but its water source was cut off and it was left uninhabited.

【Koshigaya Village】

40 ri. Tanigoe relocated here.

【Yoshikawa Village】

50 ri. The catfish-beastfolk of the Yoshikawa clan live in Minuma, but some of them live in this village.

【Nigōhanryō Marshland】

In the vicinity of Yoshikawa Village. The remains of a collapsed dungeon. The catfish-beastfolk of the Yoshikawa clan used to live here, but as it has been drying up, it is barely kept maintained by water piped in from the Library-City Dungeon.

【Travelers' Inns】

Located at the 60-ri, 70-ri, and 80-ri marks. In the future, post-station towns are to be established.

【Ōta Bridge】

The bridge just short of Oda Castle.

● Southeast Side / the Quarter of the Snake

The Sō direction. 50 ri to the Toshima Magistracy at Hiratsuka. In Kinran's charge. The second highway to be improved.

【Yoshikichō】

The town at the southeast gate of the ramparts.

【Kishi Village】 (fief)

2 ri. The fief of Kishi Harima-no-suke. It has Gassan-ji, whose principal image is the Bodhisattva Seishi.

To the west is the Minuma embankment.

【Tsuji Village】 (fief)

10 ri. The fief of Tsuji Bunzō.

【Nishi Village】 (fief)

20 ri. The fief of Nishi Tatewaki.

【Kanae Village】 (fief)

30 ri. The fief of Kanae Danjō.

【Toda Village】 (fief)

40 ri. A fort is to be built here to serve as a defensive stronghold. Heta Tsuno-no-Tairyō Yaichi and his wife Tomi Yuno live here.

【Nameless Bridge】

About 47 ri. A checkpoint on the far bank of the dry valley just short of the Toshima Magistracy at Hiratsuka.

● Southwest Direction / the Quarter of the Sheep

There is no gate here, and it has not been developed. Fuchū lies in this direction, but going by way of Kasumigaseki is not much of a detour.

If a town were to be built, its name would apparently be something like Honchō or En'ami, somewhere around there.

【Tajima Village】

A village to be built in the southwest direction, on the far bank of Minuma.

The libraries that make up the "Library-City Dungeon" include, besides actual existing libraries, some former libraries that have been relocated or closed, as well as libraries under construction or in the planning stage.
